Conference & Expo / 4–5 August 2027 / Venue to be announced

Slope Stability X27

Africa’s practitioner-led slope stability conference and expo returns. Two days with the engineers who investigate, design, build, monitor and govern slopes in working mines.

About SSX27

Built on what SSX26 started

SSX26 explored the disconnects behind major slope failures. SSX27 takes the same five themes further, shaped with the speakers who led them in 2026.

Expect more speakers, shorter 30-minute sessions, more time between sessions and live polls that bring the room into the discussion. An online webinar series with returning SSX26 speakers runs in the months before the event. Other forums cover the theory and the standards. SSX27 is where the engineers who carry the risk on site compare what actually works.

The SSX27 programme is still being shaped. Tell us which slope stability problems you want on the agenda, or put your own talk forward.

The full life of a slope

01

Investigation & site characterisation

Better ground models, from structural mapping to remote sensing.

02

Design & planning

Linking mine planning decisions to geotechnical reality.

03

Construction & execution

Ground support and rockfall protection that performs as designed.

04

Monitoring & operations

From instruments and data to early warning and action.

05

Risk & governance

Ownership of geotechnical risk, regulation and closure.

Present at SSX27

We are looking for practical talks from people doing the work: case studies, lessons from failures, and methods others can apply on their own sites.

30-minute speaking slots, including questions
15-minute flash talks on new methods and technology
Topics under any of the five themes
Case studies from operating mines are especially welcome
