Mine Build Africa 2027

The conference for the people who build Africa’s mines: what it takes to move a project from feasibility to first ore.

About the event

From feasibility to first ore

Mine Build Africa follows a new mine through its whole build. Day 1 covers developing the mine, from feasibility to construction. Day 2 covers operating it, from construction to production.

Investment forums cover the deal and policy forums cover the rules. Mine Build Africa owns the practical layer in between: how the mine actually gets built. Expect case studies and lessons learned from the general managers, project directors and contractors who have delivered mining projects across Africa. The programme is still taking shape, and speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.

Programme themes

Two days, six themes

Day 1 · Developing the mine

Project development and delivery

The handover from feasibility to construction, and choosing between EPC, EPCM and an owner’s team.

Day 1 · Developing the mine

Mine infrastructure and construction

Roads, water management, tailings facilities, process plant and workshops, sequenced against the production ramp-up.

Day 1 · Developing the mine

Contract mining and commercial models

Owner-operator versus contract mining, and agreements whose KPIs, incentives and risk transfer work on site.

Day 2 · Operating the mine

Open-pit operations and optimisation

Taking a new pit from first blast to steady-state production: fleet, drill, blast, load and haul, and maintenance.

Day 2 · Operating the mine

Leadership, safety culture and workforce

Building a safety culture from day one on a new site, and recruiting and developing a local workforce.

Day 2 · Operating the mine

Digital, reliability and the next projects

Digital and fleet tools that work today, and the copper, cobalt and battery-metal builds coming through Africa’s project pipeline.
